Kutztown University's Kevin Morton is a nominee for the 2011 Harlon Hill Award - given to the top player in NCAA Division II Football. Morton, the 2010 PSAC East Player of the Year and all-region quarterback, ranks among the PSAC and NCAA leaders in pass efficiency, total offense and passing yards this season. He has led the Golden Bears to a No. 8 national ranking, a 9-1 record and a berth in the 2011 PSAC Championship Game on Nov. 12.

Dr. Adrienne Oakley, Professor of Marine Science and Geology, and five KU students will studying the sea floorbetween Hawaii and Guam from Nov. 4-Dec. 17. The Jurassic Ocean Crust Magnetic Survey 2011 Expedition in the Pacific, funded by National Science Foundation, is a special and rare opportunity. The KU students will gain first-hand experience working on the ship with other experienced scientists, which will prepare them for their future in this field. ALI KOSER - 2011 SYED R. ALI-ZAIDI AWARD FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Kutztown University's Ali Koser '11 reacts to winning the 2011 Syed R. Ali-Zaidi Award for Academic Excellence. The Ali-Zaidi Award is presented annually to a graduating senior at one of the 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities. It recognizes outstanding academic achievement and participation in extra- and co-curricular activities. The award was established by Syed R. Ali-Zaidi, a founding member of the PASSHE Board of Governors. Koser is the first KU student to win the prestigious award.

Kutztown University celebrated the 11 recipients of its annual Academic Achievement Awards in a ceremony on April 20. The Academic Achievement Awards were established through a generous donation by faculty emeritus Dr. Carlson R. Chambliss. Faculty members nominate students after they have met one or more of the six areas of achievement. Areas in which achievement can occur include: successfully completed research projects, original artwork of high quality, artistic performances (music, chorus, drama, etc.) of high quality, original writing in literature or meritorious writing in other fields, noteworthy athletics, and outstanding service to the KU community.

On the Boulevard, perhaps the largest display of Kutztown University student talent ever held in one evening, was showcased on Nov. 7, 2009, in the McFarland Student Union and Sharadin Arts Building. The event was developed by the KU Foundation and supported by more than 200 student and faculty volunteers. This year, the inaugural gala treated guests to dance, musical and theatrical performances by 11 different campus groups. The Student Leader Walk of Fame recognized 12 student organizations for their achievements and volunteer efforts on campus and throughout the community. Tours of the expanded Sharadin Arts Building were highlighted by visits to art studios and the student exhibit.

DR. RONALD R. RHEIN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY AREA DEDICATION

Kutztown University dedicated the Dr. Ronald R. Rhein Environmental Study Area on October 19, 2009. Located northwest of campus off of Sharadin Road, the 40-acre Ecoplot has served the university as a living laboratory, a landscape that functions as an outdoor scientific study hall, a biological system to bring the classroom to this natural environment.
